He has an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Arizona State University. His Master’s Degree is in Double Bass performance from the University of Michigan. Additional education includes a Summer Fellowship at Northwestern in Chicago and numerus conducting and orchestra education workshops. Mr. Lane has taught elementary through college music for over 35 years. He was orchestra director at Shawnee Mission East High School for 31 years where he also taught middle school. In that time, the SM East orchestra performed as an Honor Orchestra at; Chicago Mid-West Band and Orchestra Clinic, Music Educator National Conference (MENC), the American String Teachers National (ASTA) convention and Kansas Music Educators Association conference. He has also been a guest clinician and given talks at the Mid- West Band and Orchestra clinic, Missouri Music Teachers Association and ASTA. He has also published articles and the ASTA magazine and the Instrumentalist. He is a contributor to the GIA series of books “Teaching Music Through Performance in Orchestra”. Mr. Lane has been on the faculty of many summer music camps including the Fort Hays and Blue Lake summer music camps. Jon Lane is active as a professional double bass player and teacher. He keeps a private bass studio in the Kansas City area. Former students have gone on the top music schools like Indiana University and Julliard, some have gone on to play in the Hong Kong and the Wichita Symphonies. He has 3 grown children, two granddaughters, he also plays tennis and does yoga. < Back Michael Esch Piano Learn More Videos About Michael Esch holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance from Rice University where his teachers included Robert Roux and Jon Kimura Parker. His other major influences include his first teachers, Rosemary Collins and Dorothy Morton, and coachings with Rebecca Penneys, Lazar Berman and Anton Kuerti. Dr. Esch has been featured in numerous recitals throughout Canada including at the Glenn Gould Studio for the CBC, and for the Canadian University Music Society. He has also appeared in concerts throughout Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the United States and Germany, as well as various centers in the far east. He has performed with numerous orchestras in Canada, and has collaborated with a number of acclaimed artists including the Belgian violinist Michael Guttman, the eminent violist, Rivka Golani, as well as many appearances with the Canadian Sinfonietta Chamber Players. During the pandemic, he practiced mostly at home, but as the world opened up, he started participating in competitions—earning several awards at both local and regional levels. Lucas has also received top prizes in several online international competitions, including First Prize at the Golden Classical Music Awards and the Charleston Music Competition, as well as Third Prize at the American Virtuoso International Music Competition and the Bay Piano Festival Competition. At just 11 years old, Lucas made his Carnegie Hall debut, performing Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D major, Movement I with orchestra. He continues to develop his artistry and looks forward to more opportunities to perform with orchestras in the future.

He has also been recognized in international competitions such as the International Young Artists Piano Competition, the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, and the Thomas F.
