Bach - Aria: Lebens Sonne, Licht der sinnen from Cantata BWV Anne Davidson, soprano KEVIN MATHESON violinist, was awarded first prize in the 2021 Charleston International Music Competition for his performance of Vieuxtemps’ “Souvenirs d’Amérique.” Kevin recently recorded the first movement from the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra in Zlin, Czech Republic for the Cicerone Music and Arts label. Kevin Matheson, with his brother as violin-viola duo, received critical acclaim at their Carnegie Weill Recital Hall début as part of the Ibla Grand Prize competition winners’ tour. They have been recognized for their mesmerizing and spirited performances - two perfect virtuosos, playing as one. Their two successful tours to Japan included recorded performances at Yamaha Hall in Tokyo. Kevin Matheson performed Vivaldi’s Four Violin Concerto with the Irish Sinfonietta Orchestra in New York City and has performed Bruch and Mozart concertos with the Valley Chamber Orchestra at Hollins University. Matheson is a frequent recitalist and chamber musician on concert series throughout Virginia. He has organized new ballet choreography for his performances of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, selections from Bartok’s 44 Duos for Two Violins and other works with the Roanoke Ballet Theatre and Southwest Virginia Ballet. Kevin Matheson has arranged many Broadway, movie, operatic and orchestral works for his violin-viola-piano trio which tours for the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Kevin Matheson has commissioned and premiered new chamber compositions, recorded five CDs and is a Performing Artist for Young Audiences of Virginia, presenting school concerts throughout the state. He is concertmaster of the Orchestra of Virginia’s Blue Ridge and Adjunct Instructor at Hollins University. ANNE DAVIDSON, soprano, started her solo singing career before she can remember under the direction of her mother Helen. She has studied voice with Bill Reed of Circle in the Square, New York City, and Patricia McGuinness of University of California, Santa Cruz. She was the soloist in Kim André Arnesen’s Magnificat with Vox Musica in 2022 under the direction of Daniel Paulson and the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors with the Reno Pops Orchestra in 2019. Annie is a recording singer-songwriter and performs solo and with her folk-rock band Raggedy in the Reno/Tahoe region. She is also Senior Associate with EdMetric, an education research firm, when she is not following her two daughters around. NICK HAINES cello grew up in Reno where he began his cello studies at age 10 with Barbara McMeen. He participated in the local youth orchestras including the inaugural year of the Reno Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. In high school, he continued his studies with John Lenz with whom he studied through college. Nick maintains a small group of young cello students and has had the opportunity of having some them play alongside him at TOCCATA performances. He has played principle cellist with the Ruby Mountain Symphony since 2003 and joined TOCCATA in 2009. Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus presents MESSIAH Dec. 8-22, 2024 Maestro James Rawie proudly announces the 19th annual production of HANDEL’s MESSIAH now presented by Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. The series includes performances in five distinct locations. The Reno-Tahoe-Minden and South Lake Tahoe communities continue enjoying this wonderful holiday MESSIAH tradition. Messiah was first performed in Dublin, Ireland on March 23, 1742 and was conducted by its composer, George Frederic Handel. It continues to be a masterpiece that has left audiences in awe for 278 years. Tahoe Philharmonic’s production is a celebration of the holidays and includes not only favorite selections from Messiah Parts One and Three, but also seasonal carols that the audience will be most welcome to join in singing. Joining the Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus for this production are Anne Davidson and Anna Helwing sopranos; Lorelei vanPeborgh, mezzo; Michael Lloyd, tenor; and Stuart Duke, baritone. TahoePhil Chamber Orchestra features Cliff Richardson as concertmaster; Katie Cardoza and Nick Haines as continuo; and Joe Savage and Ryan Thiele on Baroque trumpets. All performances will be conducted by Maestro James Rawie, TahoePhil’s Founder and Executive Artistic Director. We have been working for years with students of different ages, various goals, from elementary through high school, college students and graduates, young professionals, and chamber ensemble groups. In our Studio we provide nurturing environment for students’ personal growth, we help them learn technical skills necessary to be confident players, but more importantly, we teach them the art of communicating and expression through musical language. We teach our students wide variety of repertory, both solo and in chamber music collaboration; stage presence and ability to speak publicly; artistic etiquette; discipline; thoughtful and intelligent approach to practicing; supporting subjects such as music theory and history. Our students participate in numerous performances in varied settings: recitals, festivals, competitions, presentations, skill tests, TV shows, professional recording sessions. They perform on stages as contrasting as retirement communities and Carnegie Hall or Kennedy Center. William is grateful for having received generous/full scholarship awards from various musical institutes, including 2019 HeifetzPEG (Program for Exceptionally Gifted, USA; as the youngest violinist that year) and 2022 Aspen Music Festival And School. William has performed and won top prizes in various international competitions, including first prizes (Junior Division) at 2020 Philadelphia International Music Festival Concerto Competition (USA), 2021 EUROASIA International Violin Competition (Japan), 2022 NOMEA International Violin Competition (Italy), and most recently, 2022 New York Chamber Players Orchestra Concerto Competition (USA). William was also awarded Young Artist Awards at 2020 Singapore Violin Festival (Singapore) and 2021 Busan Maru International Music Festival Concerto Competition (South Korea); and the 2nd Prize (Age Group of 11-15) at 2022 Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition (Hong Kong). Additionally, William has performed at venues, such as Carnegie Hall (New York), Harris Concert Hall (Colorado), Mellon Hall (Philadelphia), National Concert and Recital Halls (Taiwan), and San Vito al Tagliamento Auditorium (Italy). Most recently, William performed with internationally renowned pianist Akiko Chiba, Jinhee Park, Jeong-Eun Lee, Grammy Award-nominated pianist Mark Livshits, and internationally renowned violinist Svetlana Makarova and Accademia d’Archi Arrigoni under the baton of Maestro Giancarlo Guarino. William will perform as a violin soloist in New York with the NYCP Orchestra for the season of 2022-23. Prior to Juilliard Pre-College, William studied with Professor Chengtu Su (Taipei National University of the Arts, Taiwan), Professor Qian Zhou (Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Singapore), and violinist Sirena Huang (USA). William performed at the masterclasses with Italian-German-American Grammy-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich (USA), Professor Itzhak Rashkovsky (Ukraine/Israel), Professor Kyung-Sun Lee (South Korea), and the Grammy Award-winning Parker Quartet (USA). Also, William has been mentored by violinist Pieter Schoeman (Concertmaster of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, UK). Besides playing the violin, William enjoys playing chess, badminton, and ice-skating, as well as singing and dancing in musicals. He played “Rolf” in “The Sound of Music” at the Auditorium of CKS (Chiang Kai-Shek) Memorial Hall and starred as “Peter Pan” in “Peter Pan” at USC (Shih-Chien University) Concert Hall. The colORCHESTRA Open Auditions are presented in Partnership with Brilliant Talent Discovery Awards, Progressive Musicians, Virtual Concert Halls, and /kor/ productions Auditions were held for upcoming Concerto Performance Dates: FEBRUARY 17th & 19th, 2023 Western New York Chamber Orchestra Glen Cortese, Conductor This uniquely-designed audition is open to musicians of all ages who are available for soloist engagements within the 2022-23 and 2023-24 concert seasons. Selected artists will be awarded an appearance opportunity to perform solo with esteemed professional orchestras from around the world. We thank the esteemed International Panel of Judges, for sharing their time and expertise with auditionees, through their constructive supportive comments which they provided live during the Final Round of the Auditions, and through the process of selecting the Winners: Gevorg Sargsyan, conductor, cello Johanna Moffitt, soprano James Welch, piano, conductor Lisa Layman, soprano, Executive Director, WNYCO Orchestra Glen Cortese conductor, Music Director of WNYCO Orchestra Come and join a supportive, inclusive environment that values professionalism, creativity, personal expression, and the joy that comes from making music! For more information on application, visit our website at www.soundespressivocompetition.com ______________________________ Born in Bulgaria, Avguste Antonov studied piano in Bulgaria (Dobrich), France (Ecole Normale de Paris, Conservatoire de Bordeaux Jacques Thibaud) and the United States (2000: University of Missouri-Kansas City; 2001-2004: University of Kansas; 2006-2008: Texas Christian University). He studied under the guidance of Alain Motard, Herve N'Kaoua, Robert Weirich, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Jack Winerock and Tamas Ungar. Avguste Antonov also had the privilege of taking masterclasses with Gerhard Oppitz, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Olivier Gardon, Grigory Sokolov, Olga Kern, Laure Favre Kahn, Anton Nel, Roman Rudnytsky and Yoheved Kaplinsky. In addition to performing, Avguste Antonov is active as lecturer and has presented lectures for the Carrollton Music Teachers Association, Frisco Music Teachers Association, Kansas Music Teachers Association, Oklahoma Music Teachers Association, Wisconsin Music Teachers Association and the Colburn Piano Summer Festival. He is an adjudicator for various international competitions including the ENKOR Piano Competition, the Sound Espressivo Global Competition , the Music International Grand Prix, North American Virtuoso International Music Competition, Royal Music Indonesia 2021, Grand Maestro International Music Competition and ​World Classical Music Awards In 2021, Avguste Antonov was named on the advisory board of the Sound Espressivo Global Competition.
