< Back Previous Kaitlyn Aaronson Next Gala at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall November 24, 2025 WATCH VIDEO Kaitlyn began playing piano at age 5 and is currently pursuing the Level 8 Certificate of Merit. For several years, she has performed in the Honors Recital and has been recognized as a winner in The Memorial Awards Competition as well as a gold winner at the Contemporary Festival. Beyond her musical accomplishments, Kaitlyn excels academically at Chaminade College Preparatory, where she is actively involved in numerous extracurriculars. She serves as a leader in the Ambassador Club, Treasurer of the Society of Women Engineers, and participates in the California Scholarship Federation, Blue Crew, Speech and Debate, History Bowl, and Science Bowl. Kaitlyn is also a dedicated athlete, playing on the Varsity Field Hockey Team for the past three years and participating in Club Soccer since third grade.

Calliope has received top prizes in numerous national and international competitions, including the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition, Vancouver International Music Competition, Odin Competition, Chicago International Music Competition, Nouvelles Étoiles Competition, American Virtuoso International Music Competition, California MTNA Competition, New York International Artists’ Association Praelusio Competition, Pacific Musical Society Competition, and the Enkor Competition. As a soloist, she has performed with the Uniart Orchestra in Paris, the New York Concerti Sinfonietta at Merkin Hall, and the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. A dedicated chamber musician, Calliope recently appeared at Barbro Osher Recital Hall with her piano quartet Cadentia, which won Grand Prize at the Enkor Competition. She also serves as first violinist in the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. Calliope has participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists including Midori, Gilbert Kalish, Kim Kashkashian, Erin Keefe, Ariana Kim, Kenneth Renshaw, and Kirill Troussov. In the summer of 2025, she performed in the Music@Menlo Young Performers Program, the Sarasate Academy in Spain, and Center Stage Strings in Michigan. Born in Prague, Czech Republic, on November 11, 1957, she immigrated to Canada with her family in 1968. She earned a Bachelor of Music (Honours Composition) from Wilfrid Laurier University, studying composition with Barrie Cabena, piano with Erhard Schlenker, French horn with Felix Acevedo, and organ with Nixon McMillan and Jan Overduin. She is also an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in piano performance. In 1987, she received a Master of Music in composition from the University of Sydney, Australia, studying with Peter Sculthorpe. Jana’s compositions are noted for their expressive lyricism and the integration of influences ranging from Gregorian chant to Czech folksong. Her works have been performed across North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Highlights include Australian Images, premiered by the Lehner String Quartet in 2021; Presences, premiered by mezzo-soprano Maria Soulis in 2022; and New Year Carol in 2024. Other notable works include the monodrama The Path before Me, the orchestral piece Streams, and choral works such as Song of Life and Back to Babylon. Jana also composes for solo voice, setting poetry to music, including works by P.K. Page. She is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre, former Chair of the Association of Canadian Women Composers, and has served on the National Council of the Canadian League of Composers. Jana is also a visual artist and photographer, often creating in parallel with her music. She teaches piano and music theory, examines for the Royal Conservatory of Music, and has sung with the Contemporary Singers (Sydney) and the St. Mary Magdalene’s Gallery Choir (Toronto). She recently translated The Foundations of Modern Harmony by Karel Janeček from Czech into English (WLU Press, 2024). Many of Jana’s compositions are available through the Canadian Music Centre. For more information, visit www.JanaSkarecky.com Australian Images – String Quartet by Jana Skarecky Jana Skarecky’s string quartet, Australian Images, is a tribute to her teacher and friend, Peter Sculthorpe, and draws inspiration from the majestic landscapes of Australia, where she lived for a year and returned to visit later. The four movements reflect Jana’s experiences of four culturally and spiritually significant sites cared for by the Aboriginal people for millennia. I. Kata Tjuta – Known as “many heads,” this formation of 36 red dome-shaped mountains in central Australia is sacred to the Anangu people. Walking along the Walpa Gorge trail, visitors are reminded to tread lightly and hold the sacred nature of the place in their hearts. II. Uluru – The iconic red sandstone monolith, rising 348 meters and over 9 km around, is also sacred to the Anangu. Jana captures both the glowing red sunrise and a rare desert thunderstorm, with its cascading waters and the chorus of frogs that follow. III. Ubirr – Located in Kakadu National Park, this site features rock shelters adorned with Aboriginal paintings thousands of years old. The movement opens with a quotation from Peter Sculthorpe’s 10th String Quartet and incorporates material from Jana’s piano Elegy, composed in Sculthorpe’s memory. IV. Karrimurra Waterfall (Florence Falls) – In Litchfield Park near Darwin, this segmented waterfall drops thirty meters into a serene plunge pool amidst lush monsoon forest. The Wangait people describe it as a spiritual place of solitude that nourishes the mind and soul. Through Australian Images, Jana Skarecky evokes the powerful connection between landscape, culture, and memory, creating a work that is both personal and universally resonant.

They have been recognized for their mesmerizing and spirited performances - two perfect virtuosos, playing as one. Rainer Stegmann Rainer Stegmann is a concert guitarist, composer and music educator. He studied in Frankfurt am Main at the Musikhochschule and at the Dr. Hoch's Conservatory. Rainer Stegmann performs as a soloist, in various chamber music casts and with orchestra. His musical focus is clearly in the field of new music. He wants to prove that contemporary music is not just for experts. Rainer Stegmann has performed numerous rarely heard contemporary chamber music and solo works for guitar. His CDs 'Soundscapes I, II and III' published by the classical label GENUIN received excellent reviews and established Rainer Stegmann as a globally respected interpreter of contemporary music. Rainer Stegmann has been active in composition since his youth. His teacher at the Frankfurt University of Music was Prof. Jürgen Blume. The Gala Auditions are organized by Sound Espressivo, Progressive Musicians, and Virtual Concert Halls. Auditionees from many countries are seeking guidance and support from the Judges, through live comments which you will hear after each performance The Sound Espressivo Global Competition is an online, live-streamed competition. It combines a competition and live performance experience. Progressive Musicians is an organizer of many competitions and concerts at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall. Virtual Concert Halls is an Internet TV broadcaster providing artists with a virtual stage and ability to reach audiences beyond the walls of conventional concert halls. The goal of these Auditions is to encourage, nurture, and reward musicians who are proactive about sharing their art and developing their careers. < Back Donna Weng Friedman Piano Learn More Videos About Award winning pianist Donna Weng Friedman enjoys a varied career as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, curator, producer and app developer. Her album Heritage and Harmony: Silver Linings , featuring exclusively AAPI/BIPOC artists, aims to promote understanding and tolerance and combat racism, with all proceeds donated to an organization that supports the AAPI community and fights against racism. Recorded and released during the pandemic, the album has won two SIlver Medals from Global Music Awards- one for Outstanding Concept and the other for Outstanding Instrumentalists. This season, Donna is thrilled to be collaborating with Ariel Rivka Dance as Artistic Advisor to share stories of heritage and harmony through music and dance. In collaboration with WQXR, Ms. Weng Friedman created and produced Heritage and Harmony , a virtual concert video series in celebration of Asian Pacific Heritage Month. She is the co-creator and co-host of HER/MUSIC;HER/STORY, a mini-series on WQXR as well as a concert series that shines a light on women composers, past and present. She was the guest speaker on TEDx Santa Barbara’s series Making Waves: Conversations with Influencers and Disruptors. In January and April 2021, Donna was the featured guest artist on the National Women’s History Museum’s series NWHM Presents: Sundays@Home, honoring women whose activism and talents serve to inspire others. On March 8th, 2022, she is launching a new education program in collaboration with the National Women’s History Museum called Heritage and Harmony: Her Art, Her Voice , featuring leading female BIPOC role models in the arts who share their stories of heritage, their challenges and their triumphs, as they seek to inspire and empower future generations of groundbreaking young women. Donna has performed in concert halls worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the 92nd St. Y and appeared as soloist with major symphony orchestras, including the Atlanta, Philadelphia and Shanghai Symphony Orchestras. An avid chamber musician, she has collaborated with St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, Carter Brey, Ani Kavafian, David Shifrin, Elizabeth Mann, Kelly Hall-Tompkins and Anthony McGill. She has conducted master classes at the Shanghai and Beijing conservatories and is on the faculty of the Mannes School of Music. The curator of the Donna Weng Friedman '80 Master Class Series at Princeton University, she is also a member of Princeton University Music Department’s Advisory Council as well as the board of directors of Friends of Thirteen and WNET. Ms. Weng Friedman received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University where she was a University Scholar and a Master of Music Degree from the Juilliard School, under the tutelage of Adele Marcus, where she was awarded the prestigious Gina Bachauer Award as well as the William Petschek Full Scholarship Award. She has had the privilege of working with the great composer/teacher Nadia Boulanger as well as pianist Radu Lupu. She was the music supervisor and recording artist for the award-winning film documentary “Frames of Life” as well as for the documentaries “Living Liberty” and “Morris Engle: The Independent”.
